2023 Global Learning Fellowship
I was lucky enough to be selected into the 2022 NEA Global Learning Fellowship. I am 1 of 49 educators from across 48 states - and the only representing Minnesota.
The GLF is a yearlong, cohort-based professional development experience through which educators enhance their knowledge and skills to integrate global competency in their classrooms, strengthen their ability to advocate for global competency, and empower students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Over the course of the year, fellows immerse themselves in online coursework, webinars, reading and reflection, a two-day professional development workshop, mentoring by program alumni, and a ten-day international field study to Africa. Fellows also complete a capstone project that reflects their learning and can serve as a source for educators beyond the program.
I look forward to bringing my knowledge to Lac qui Parle students and educators as well as educators throughout our area.

My Story:
My Family
I grew up in Browns Valley, MN where I attended Elementary and Middle School. I then went on to graduate High School from Sisseton High School. Above, you can see a picture of my family- my Mom Peggy, my Dad Dennis, my two younger sisters, Haley and Maddie and my husband, Daniel. Family has been, and continues to be, one of the most important and influential supports not only to my music, but also my entire life. I began my love for music when I started piano at the age of 5, but it wasn't until my junior year in high school when I discovered my passion for teaching music. It is important for me to share my love for music with my students so that they are able to allow music to make a positive impact on their lives, in the same way it has made a positive impact on mine. I got married to my college sweetheart, Daniel on June 26, 2021. He is also a music teacher - in fact we met through our music education program at Northern. But don't worry, I am not planning on moving! I will be sticking around awhile longer--just with a new name. See the slide show below for photos! |
Musical Experience
I began playing piano at the age of 5 and starting taking percussion lessons in 5th grade in my middle school band. As you can see above I had the opportunity to be apart of the Northern State University Drumline. The Marching Wolves was one of my favorite parts of college! But my heart is drawn to the mallet instruments of the percussion section and you will see me practicing the marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone most often. Northern gave me a great diversity of music experiences through the ensembles I was able to be apart of:
I am currently a member of the Swift County Band, Lac qui Parle Players, LqPV Musical Pit, & Dawson School Musical Pit where I am able to put my mallet playing skills to use. In need of a percussionist/drummer for your band/ensemble? I would be happy to play with you. Just shoot me an email! Interested in private lessons for your child? Contact me for details! |
Music Degree
I have a great passion for music and have dedicated my life towards sharing that passion with others. This dream of mine came true when I graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD on May 2018, Summa Cum Laude, with a K-12 Music Education degree. I have both a Tier 3 Minnesota Teaching license and a South Dakota Teaching licence. I am so excited that I am able to continue my journey as an educator in the Lac qui Parle Valley School district for my 6th year teaching. For 4 years I was the elementary music teacher, and this will be year 2 as the 5-12 band director! I am lucky to have the chance to continue to make a positive impact in this wonderful school district with wonderful students! I am currently living in the Madison community with my husband but continue to get to know all the communities and people of where I work. Small towns have always had my heart so I am so glad I am able to work and live in one. |
